Bigfoot 4×4, Inc: Hazelwood, Missouri

In some parts of America, people sleep late on the weekends and celebrate the end of another work week with a feast of mimosas, bloody marys, and full, hearty breakfasts. In others, they wake up early, flip on their Evinrude and fish until the sun hangs in the high above. In Missouri, we shake off our easy-drinkin’ Busch Light hangovers and drag ourselves — and our kids — to the (Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!!) Bigfoot 4×4 Open House.

Optimo Hats Trunk Show, NYC & SF

Picture 7Just prior to the release of summer blockbuster Public Enemies, all plaidout paid a visit to the film’s hatter, Optimo Hats in Chicago, Illinois. Ask anyone and they’ll tell you the hats stole the show. Now is your chance to get that Dillinger look. Graham Thompson and his team at Optimo are going coastal. They’re taking their show on the road. A two stop, five day tour, Graham and company will be holed up in a suite at the Gramercy Park Hotel for three days of fittings in New York City and at Fino Fino in Menlo, Park, California for a two-day stint in the next month. It promises to be a raucous good time, complete with cocktails and the best hats in the world.

Subj: SHOOT

alex photo 16Alex Beh wears Apolis Activism’s Short Sleeve Gingham Woven; their olive Field Jacket; Mosley Tribes’ Lyndel Black with Polarized CR-39 Grey Lenses, and City of Others Denim.

Gearing up for a photo shoot must be one of the most fun things in the world to do. In preparation for one in Los Angeles this summer, actor Alex Beh sent me and photographer Jory Cordy an e-mail that read as follows:

The Blind Five: Drinkin’ and Dronin’ & Secret Forts

SFandDD 001I cannot recall what first lead me to Drinkin’ and Dronin’, but its gorgeous compilation of tattoos, booze, shoes, and music have become manna — that is, divine or spiritual food. I look to DD for a certain edge that I’ll never possess. I found the head-to-toes of Secret Forts when looking for a high quality image of a Max Bill watch, and then spent the crux of an afternoon reading the posts and stashing a collection of terrific images. Through pure luck, I had the opportunity to meet Brandon Capps who authors DD and James Wilson of SF before they met each other. I felt the need to take advantage of that fact.

My Fall Look: Maine Guide Shirt by L.L. Bean

Current Maine Guide ShirtSomething happened. A tear in the universe. Suddenly, the red and black buffalo check has taken over. From Madison Avenue to the mall, from the High Street to the high school hallways, the check has become so common, all things from tweeny scarves and Sperry Top-Siders to duct tape and skate decks have become, well, decked out in the pattern once only reserved for Paul Bunyan and the Brawny paper towel guy.

A friend sent this with the simple caption, “Why beer is amazing.” Thanks, ET.

What’s your favorite craft beer?

The Greatest Hits of Summer 2009

Picture 5In America, summer ends on Labor Day. The custard stands shutter. The high school lifeguards watch their tans fade. The sun sets earlier, the river turns colder, and the corn grows sweeter. I’d like to take a moment to reflect. Now, I won’t bore you with stories from my road trips, although in the past few months, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing much of this great country from behind the wheel for the first time in many years. And I won’t yarn about the weddings, receptions, and family gatherings which comprised much of my leisure time this summer. No, I’m going to talk about clothes.
