The other day, while working on a story, as I clicked my bookmark for The American List, I realized I use it nearly every day. “A list of stylish and cool brands that make their goods in America,” if you’re unfamiliar with The American List, just one of many terrific resources created by Michael Williams of A Continuous Lean, take some time. Check it out. Like a good movie, I return to it time and again finding something new, something worth remembering. Most recently? Darn Tough Socks.

Walker Lamond’s 1001 Rules for My Unborn Son first came to my attention courtesy of Plaidy of the Week, Joanna Goddard. A treasure trove of life’s lessons, famous quotes, and the occasional tune — required listening, if you will — it was only a matter of time before Mr. Lamond’s brilliant idea was discovered by a saavy publisher and made available in book form. October 27th sees the release of Rules for My Unborn Son.

The other night, wasting away in a booth at the Tick Tock Diner, languid fingers struggled to turn the pages of the latest issue of GQ. Suddenly, I found myself sprung very nearly out of the booth and to attention. Find the neon sign at 95 Spring Street in New York, and ascend the stairs to enter a counter-cultural world of wonder, a shop unlike any other. Kiosk is a well-curated boutique offering things that are “humble, straightforward and beautiful for their simplicity and directness.” The misfits who run this place have assembled, in their tiny second floor location, a wide range of classic, everyday pieces in such a way that you’ll never look at your salt shaker the same way again.
