Einstein Style
“Once you can accept the universe as matter expanding into nothing that is something, wearing stripes with plaid comes easy.” – Albert Einstein
This Longines watch presented to Einstein in 1931 by Rabbi Edgar Magnin sold at auction recently for $596,000 according to Hodinkee.
The watch once belonged to Margarita Konenkova, a Russian spy with whom, its reported, Einstein had an affair.
The professor with Frau Einstein in Panama, circa 1931. Appropriate hat in tow.
The man clearly had a style all his own, from his understated wristwatch to his trademark unruly haircut; from his baggy woolen trousers to his gnarly lambswool crew necks and cardigans; even his choice in hats left no doubt he regarded the world around him as his canvas, painting original works of art with his theories, his off-beat dress code, and his alternative lifestyle.

To read about the man himself, no one does a better job of providing a well-rounded picture of the man than Walter Isaacson in his biography, Einstein: His Life and Universe.
