Sutter’s State Fair Taffy
There’s never been a better time to bring the state fair home. At the hands of COVID-19, a global pandemic that’s forced us to socially distance, the summer of 2020 has taken on a completely different tone. Yearning for the fun, convivial atmosphere that only a state fair can bring, I had a thought: what if I could replicate my favorite parts of the state fair in my own backyard.

And that’s when it hit me: that ache for taffy, the truest taste of summer. I reached out to my friend, Tony King, whose family took over for the Sutter family ten years ago hand-making their famous State Fair Salt Water Taffy in Southern Illinois the same way it’s been made since 1919. Handmade in small batches using ingredients like locally grown walnuts and pecans, I’m offering all their favorites, as well as a grab bag, a mix of everything in my newly re-launched shop.

For those of you keeping score at home, stay tuned for the opportunity to weigh in on new flavors, offered exclusively at All Plaidout.
