Church Basketball has long been one of my favorite stand-up specials.
Nate Bargatze's rise to becoming one of our finest comedians has been nothing short of impressive. As a longtime fan and someone who remembers stumbling upon his comedy at the Cellar and many other now-defunct New York clubs in the aughts, I've felt from those earliest days that his cadence, word choice and, frankly, his accent are the tools that have set him apart. Like Mitch Hedberg and Steven Wright before him, Bargatze's ability to combine the sharpest observations with the best selection of descriptive words suitable to his voice place him in the upper echelon of comedians.
Watch this clip from 2011 and prepare to marvel at how much he's evolved while watching his upcoming Christmas special(!?), this Thursday on CBS.
